Temptation to Sin | Adriana Parrinello

Excerpt from Chapter 12:

December 1973

It was the second day in the ‘abandoned’ house—the day Tony left to
contact his Uncle Frank. He had no choice but to leave me in the shelter
of the house, while he ventured out where I believed rioters waged war
against our small town. I trembled at the thought that he might not return
to me and cried brokenheartedly that I found myself in the nightmare in
which I was living. But Tony did return, with the good news that Uncle
Frank would help us.

That night, we climbed the stairs to the second level of the house. As I
pulled the covers up onto me, Tony slipped into the sleeping bag on the
floor, next to my bed, and we attempted to rest. After the first nightmare,
it was inevitable—he lay down next to me in my bed. There was no other
way to soothe my screams, as the visions of my dead family members
haunted me.
